Reminder! Last Free Saturday Screening at CAMERA Today

Saturday June 17th, 3:00 PM

June 17 – Double Feature
PIERRE MERCURE 1927-1966
Dir. Charles Gagnon (1970), 33 min.

Québec composer Pierre Mercure was widely known as an experimental composer who integrated music, dance, and theatre into an expressive form of new music. Pierre Mercure 1927-1966 is composed of a three-minute montage filmed by Gagnon at Mercure’s funeral and burial, which is looped eleven times and processed using colour filters and optical printing techniques that reverse and double the image.

THE SOUND OF SPACE/LE SON D'UN ESPACE
Dir. Charles Gagnon (1967-1968), 27 min.

One is initially struck by the paradoxical title of the film, The Sound of Space, and its silent, or absent, soundtrack. Composed of three sequences over twenty-four minutes, the film opens with gentle drifting camera pans throughout Gagnon’s painting studio.
