Employment Opportunity at Stephen Bulger Gallery - Preparator

We are looking for an experienced fine-art framer and jack-of –all-trades who is a team-player with a passion for the arts in general and photography in particular.

Job Title: Preparator
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Terms: Full-time (37.5 hrs/week); Tuesday to Saturday 10am-6pm, plus occasional evening availability.

-           Archival matting and framing of prints sold at the gallery and for exhibition
-           Preparing framing quotes for the Sales Manager
-           Installing exhibitions
-           Maintenance and ordering of framing, matting and shipping supplies
-           Inspecting incoming and outgoing inventory
-           Safe packaging of prints and books for shipping
-           Preparing shipping and customs paperwork
-           Assist with collections management
-           Support all computer systems and technology; including backing up digital
databases and fixing technical issues
-           Basic design and layout for in-house promotional materials
-           Gallery maintenance, including changing light bulbs, basic repairs, etc.

Skills Required:
-           At minimum, a basic knowledge of photographic processes and history
-           Previous matting and framing experience (minimum 1-2 years); ability to use a mat cutter
-           Comfortable working with delicate and irreplaceable prints
-           Previous experience installing exhibitions
-           Experience preparing shipping and customs paperwork
-           IT experience; the ability to troubleshoot and fix technical problems, install software and maintain computer networks
-           Ability to multi-task and meet strict and competing deadlines
-           Excellent organizational skills
-           Highly focussed, with great attention to detail
-           Self-directed, motivated and capable of working well with others in a small work environment
-           Familiarity with technical equipment (projectors, new media, etc.)
-           Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Photoshop and collection databases (Artsystems Gallery Pro, FileMaker Pro.)
-           Basic design skills
-           License to drive a vehicle and comfortable transporting art
-           Proficiency in a second language considered an asset
