We appreciate the work of Luminous-Lint as a resource for understanding photography. In order to enhance their activities, they have launched this Kickstarter campaign!

Message from the creator

"The Story Begins With A Personal History…..
About 10 years ago, I decided to learn the History of Photography. I had always been interested in it, but never had the time to do so properly. I created Luminous-Lint to share the huge amount of material I’ve collected and created.

Many thousands of you have watched this project evolve over the past decade. I have had the pleasure of getting to know some of you personally, and look forward to meeting more of you who share my enthusiasm for the History of Photography. A great many collectors, curators, estates of photographers, gallery owners and dealers around the world receive the Newsletters, which are all online, and have shared material – both for the website and from it."

A Brief Overview of Luminous-Lint
  • Luminous-Lint currently has more than 10 million page views a year (yes, you read correctly: more than 10 million).
  • It is a free, vast and expanding non-commercial resource on all aspects of the History of Photography.
  • It already includes more than 1,000 Themes, 700 online exhibitions and 7,000 photographers.
  • It has been created with contributions from more than 2,300 institutions, galleries, dealers and individuals.
  • It includes many images that can be found nowhere else, as they come from private collections around the world.

Upcoming Book Launch for Gallery Artist Pete Doherty

PETE DOHERTY
World’s Greatest

Book Launch: Thursday, May 30, 5-9pm
Exhibition Dates: May 30 – June 15, 2013

Bulger Gallery Press is pleased to present, World’s Greatest, a publication that features 60 photographs by Pete Doherty and writing by Stephen Brunt, Jim Christy and Larry Fink.

Etobicoke Olympium, Etobicoke, Ontario, 2004

The Docks Nightclub, Toronto, Ontario, 2005

Doherty (b. Ottawa, Canada, 1964) is a self-taught photographer and graduate of the Ontario College of Art, who, for many years, left behind the world of art to become a boxer.  After retiring from his amateur career, Doherty returned to the ring with his camera in hand.  His photographs primarily document the boxing world in Ontario and New York State, but are representative of professional and amateur boxing throughout North America. The images not only focus on the sport of boxing, but also on the people and personalities that populate that world. His photographs document the emotions and physical challenges of training, fighting, and the win or loss. They also address the politics that make up both amateur and professional fighting.

Niagara Falls Memorial Arena, Niagara Falls, Ontario, 2003

Tebor’s Room, Mississauga, Ontario, 2009

Doherty has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. His work can be found at the Portrait Gallery of Canada—Library and Archives Canada, Ottawa, and Wedge Curatorial Projects, Toronto, as well as in many private collections. He currently lives, trains, and photographs in Toronto.

A selection of photographs from World’s Greatest will be exhibited in Gallery Two at the Stephen Bulger Gallery from May 30 to June 15.

Current Gallery Exhibition, Danny Lyon: The Bikeriders Featured on ARTORONTO.ca

ARTORONTO.ca author and photographer Shellie Zhang visited the gallery on Saturday May 11th for the opening of the current gallery exhibition Danny Lyon: The Bikeriders:

... "The Bikeriders explores the seductive realm of the biker subculture with a different conclusion than those depicted in popular culture. Lyon offers a romantic insight towards the classic American outlaw and maintains their integrity with signs of compassion. In many ways, Lyon acts as a spokesman for his friends and comrades...."

Gallery Artist Laura Letinsky's Upcoming Exhibition at Brock University

Rodman Hall Art Centre/Brock University

Laura Letinsky: Still Life Photographs, 1997 – 2012

May 25 to September 8, 2013

Artist Talk: Friday, May 24, 7 pm
Opening Reception: Friday, May 24, 8 pm

"For more than fifteen years, Canadian-born artist, Laura Letinsky, has explored the possibilities of still life photography. The generally subdued colors of her work lend it an air of lightness and tranquility that is often at odds with the moldering produce and mass-produced remnants of daily life she orchestrates in her photographs. On close inspection, playful manipulations of balance, space, and scale reveal both her curiosity about human perception and her rigorous search for meaningful form."

Interview with Gallery Artist Robert Burley on Rangefinderforum.com

Radio interview: Robert Burly documents Kodak closure

"When Toronto-based photographer Robert Burley documented the closure of Kodak's main Canadian branch plant in 2005 he had little inkling that this was just the beginning of what would turn out to be the rapid demise of film and the huge factories that produced it around the world."
