The King’s Speech is the story of King George VI (Colin Firth) who, with the encouragement of his wife Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), employs Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) to overcome his stammer. After his brother Edward VII abdicated the thrown King George relies on Logue to assist with his radio broadcast on the day that Britain goes to war with Germany at the beginning of World War II.

The film received many awards and nominations including nominations for twelve Academy Awards, the most of any films that year, winning four awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay.
