AMORES PERROS

Dir. Alejandro González Iñárritu (Mexico: 2000), 154 min.

The film follows 3 different stories as they all come together in a car crash on the streets of Mexico. The first story follows Octavio who lives with his mother, brother (Ramiro) and his brother’s wife (Susana.) Octavio, looking to earn some cash to run away with his sister-in-law, starts entering his Rottweiler into dog fighting matches. The second story involves a model, Valeria and her boyfriend Daniel. She is involved in the car crash with Octavio and her leg is crushed. The third story involves the witness of the crash, a homeless man named El Chivo. Chivo looks after stray dogs he finds on the street and also works as a hitman. In a single moment these 3 stories are brought together and the car crash causes all their lives to change drastically.

Amores Perros was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language film in 2001. The film won “Critics Week Grand Prize” and “Young Critics Award Best Feature” at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival.
