Petropolis: Aerial Perspectives on The Alberta Tar Sands

Dir. Peter Mettler (Canada: 2009), 43 mins: Petropolis: Aerial Perspectives On The Alberta Tar Sands looks at the giant oil reserve in Alberta and the effects it is having on the environment. The film looks at the water, earth, animal and human lives this massive energy production site is harming. By looking at the area, which is the size of England, from a helicopter, Petropolis allows the viewer to see the massive bigger picture. Making its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2009, the film looks into society’s dependence on oil and it shows us how it is affecting Alberta and destroying the environment around the area.
